Map of the world fault lines

Findings: For this proposal, there was a many focus on California due to many reasons, but mostly because it has one of the most known faults, the San Andreas Fault. Due to this fault and other faults within the area, my findings were true, there is mostly increased seismic activity where there lies a fault line. California Earthquake History.

The San Andreas Fault is the boundary between the North American plate and the Pacific plate. Land west of the fault has been moving to the northwest relative to land on the east at an average rate of 2 inches per year for millions of year. This motion typically occurs in sudden jumps during large earthquakes. The most well known transform fault in North America is the mighty San Andreas Fault, located between the North American and Pacific plates. Figure 5.2.3 shows this boundary. At this scale, the fault appears to be a single line, but it is actually an intricate network of smaller faults. All it takes is a good Geological map, and a desire to see the world's most famous fault. Types of Earthquake Faults. A fault line ...Earthquakes are the result of sudden movement along faults within the Earth. The movement releases stored-up ‘elastic strain’ energy in the form of seismic waves, which propagate through the Earth and cause the ground surface to shake. Such movement on the faults is generally a response to long-term deformation and the buildup of stress. The San Andreas fault line in California is the longest in the world. Seismologists have had some success with predicting locations and intensitites ...

1. This, 100%. There is no need to show the actual fault line, just as there is no need to show any other plate boundary. It is, however, useful to know where these boundaries lie in order to make a geologically realistic map.
