I don't believe an HEI distributor needs to be fed via relay. If 88 is like 89, there will be a gaggle of yellow switched 12V wires in the harness and all seem to be spliced on my 89 right in the center of the harness on the firewall. As mentioned above the yellow switched 12V to the coil will have a resistor which you don't want in the HEI feed.
