Visual world paradigm

We tested among these alternatives in three experiments using the visual-world paradigm ( Cooper, 1974, Tanenhaus et al., 1995), which has been used to investigate both predictive processing (Altmann & Kamide, 1999) and perspective-taking (see Barr, 2016, for a review). Below, we consider the evidence for one- and two-stage accounts of prediction.

Visual world paradigm. The current article provides solutions for the analysis of data sets from eyetracking experiments that use the ‘visual world’ paradigm (e.g., Cooper, 1974, Tanenhaus et al., 1995).In a typical ‘visual world’ experiment, participants view a scene and listen to speech containing references to objects in the scene.

2. Reuland et al. (2012): an eye-tracking study using the visual world paradigm The methodology used by Reuland et al . (2012) (eye-tracking in the visual world paradigm) might be accountable for this new finding. In the experiment, participants’ eye fixations were

Here we present a visual-world paradigm study in a three-dimensional (3-D) immersive virtual reality environment. Despite significant changes in the stimulus materials and the different mode of stimulus presentation, language-mediated anticipatory eye movements were still observed. We used a visual-world paradigm with printed words, in which participants listened to a spoken target word embedded in a neutral spoken sentence while looking at a visual display of printed words. We examined whether a semantic competitor effect could be observed in the printed-word version of the visual-world paradigm. Choosing the right exterior paint color for your home can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to make a decision. In this paradigm, participants hear a spoken sentence, while they are looking at a display with several objects. In addition, using the visual world eye-tracking paradigm, Ito et al. tested the role of cognitive load by performing a concurrent working memory task of remembering words in anticipatory eye movements during L1 and L2 comprehension. Anticipatory eye movements to the target object were delayed with the concurrent working memory task …

Children complete a visual-world paradigm eye-tracking task that measures competition from words with several types of overlap, using identical word lists between modalities. Results showed correlated developmental changes in the speed of target recognition in both modalities. In addition, developmental changes were seen in the …In this paradigm, participants are simultaneously presented with pictures on a visual display and auditory speech while their proportion of fixations to each picture is recorded. The visual world paradigm is well-established as a means to study sentence processing as it unfolds (Tanenhaus et al., 1995). However, it remains unclear how eye movements are controlled in the visual world paradigm. The present study examined how listeners guide their eyes in the visual world paradigm by ...6 ធ្នូ 2017 ... Quelles analyses sont à privilégier pour traiter des données eye-tracking recueillies au moyen du Visual World Paradigm ?Definition of Visual World Paradigm: It is an experimental paradigm wherein participants hear utterances while looking at a visual display of target word along with competitors and distracters on the visual display. The task assigned to the participants is usually to look and listen. We briefly review this literature and discuss the implications for task-based variants of the visual world paradigm. We argue that the results and their likely interpretation may profoundly affect the "linking hypothesis" between language processing and the location and timing of fixations in task-based visual world studies.

Visual world paradigm data, however, is known to have strong correlations between adjacent time points–at any given moment you are very likely to be looking at the same thing that you were looking at 16–50 milliseconds earlier (Cho, Brown-Schmidt, & Lee, 2018).
