The Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) extends an invitation for writers to apply for the organization’s 11-month residency program. One writer, without a published full-length book, will be invited to spend the year creating new work. Residents will have the opportunity to: Work in residence at VisArts’ residency space

Dashiell Kirk is a illustrator based in Richmond. His work ranges from Comics and graphic novels to playing card games and posters. He teaches cartooning, comic book illustration, and ink drawing at the Visual Arts Center, and has a BFA in Communication Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. Website: dashiellkirk.com.

Barry O'Keefe is an artist from Richmond, Virginia working in printmaking, painting, and public art. In addition to classes at the Visual Arts Center, he teaches at VCU, Art 180 and Milk River Arts. In 2016, he received an MFA in printmaking from Ohio University. Thematically, his work engages with public space and community.Open figure drawing sessions don’t require a big commitment and are open to anyone interested in drawing from a live figure model. Sessions cost $7 and can be paid for in advance or at the door. A studio monitor guides the model and overall experience, but drawing instruction is not provided.
