The North Shore Expressway, not to be confused with the proposed highway on Long Island with the same name, was to relieve mounting traffic pressure on the Staten Island Expressway. Most of the proposed expressway was to follow the right-of-way of the SIRT North Shore Branch, which was abandoned in 1953.
