I hope the loadout in the screenshot is a joke. As for my advice, slap a plasma cannon in large slot and boost shields. Apogee has awesome shields for its size and has enough flux dissipation to sustain the plasma cannon. Add some point defense, no need to fill up all slots. Medium rocket is not very important, sabot srm is always a good choice.

I'm fairly new myself, and completely rubbish at piloting, so I play battles like an RTS. I have a hammer and anvil style fleet. on the anvil side: a few capital ships (still working through what's best, but I tend to use a battleship and a carrier for just running around), and an apogee or two (all point defense load outs) for defense, sometimes a couple of hammerheads to round out the details.

I am no expert, but I can give you a few tips: the main feature of the Astral is the Recall Device. This allows your 6 fighter squads to cobtinually have coordinated strikes. The coordinated strike has some serious ship deleting capabilities. Sabot or LRM are fine for the missile slots but quite frankly it is ok to just leave empty.The supply usage is a different matter, but a fleet with capitals can field larger cargo ships without (additional) penalty to sensor profile or movement speed, so you'll be able to carry more supplies as well.
