Spenser is a series of fictional detective novels by American author Robert B. Parker and later by Ace Atkins. Spenser is a private detective in Boston, although originally from Wyoming. In addition to the 40 novels he has appeared in, Spenser was portrayed by Robert Urich in the ABC hit TV series Spenser: For Hire that ran from 1985 until 1988. Robert Urich plays the single-named detective in this Boston-set adaptation of Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels.
