I began my career in education 40 years ago as a junior high special edu-cation teacher in Montreal, Canada. The experience shaped me in a pro-found way. I will never forget the names, faces, and personalities of my first students. There was Helen: sullen, sometimes angry, occasionally up for a little learning.
