The schematicannon works by placing all solid, non-gravity blocks first, and if it encounters a block that must be placed on another block or below one, it queues it for later. This behavior explains two things I was confused on: why my cannon would not start placing carpets immediately, and why there was a huge memory leak I was seeing.
