Other fossil pieces of Mosasaurus hoffmanii were taken from Maastrict in 1790. Some have been retrieved and put on display at the Teylers Museum of Haarlem. In the wilderness of the American West, but present-day North Dakota, a mosasaur was recovered and found its way to Germany where it was described in 1845 by the naturalist, Dr. Goldfuss.
