Father of English Poetry - Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer also bears the title of "Father of English Poetry". Before Chaucer, Latin and French were the dominant languages for literary expression in England. Chaucer was the first to demonstrate that English could be a vibrant, expressive, and respectable literary language.
