Elaboration strategies

In a sense, they provide alternate pathways to retrieve information from memory. Another name for these strategies is memory aids. There are five different types of elaboration strategies—mnemonics, rewriting, note-making, comparisons, and self-questioning. We’ll examine each one and provide examples.

Elaboration strategies. Elaboration is a teaching strategy that involves adding more details to new information in order to deepen understanding and improve retention. It is essentially the process of taking new information and expanding on it in a way that helps connect it to prior knowledge or experiences.
