Giving kitchen. Kirk is a Georgia native who moved to Atlanta for school in 2006. He earned his bachelor degrees in Political Science as well as Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory University. He later completed his Master of Social Work from Georgia State University - where he wrote his thesis on restaurant labor and the efficacy of Giving Kitchen programs.

Giving Kitchen has been a beacon of hope for over 11,415 food service workers, having awarded more than $7.6 million in financial assistance. In 2019, the James Beard Foundation honored it as the Humanitarian of the Year, and Fast Company recognized GK as one of the Brands That Matter in 2022.
