Electrocatalysis parallels the meaning of catalysis, i.e. it entails catalysis at electrodes. However, we still have to distinguish between homogeneous and heterogeneous electrocatalysis. The former implies a pre- or post-step involving a species in solution. This is not typical electrocatalysis, unless the electrode material is involved.
