Deleted messages still showing up with timestamp ios 16

iOS 16 message attachment still show on iPhone storage after being deleted. Since updating to iOS 16 every time I deleted a photo or gif from iMessage it doesn’t delete it from the phone. When I go to my iPhone message storage in settings it still shows the items I deleted. It would delete it when I was on iOS 15. Thanks in advance for any help.
