During the biopsy, a small piece of tissue is removed from the inside of the intestine. Your biopsied tissue will be analyzed (reviewed) in a laboratory and screened for any features that help make the diagnosis of IBD or any abnormal cells (pre-cancerous or cancerous) in the inflamed area of the intestine.
