Depends on the map, extinction and gen its far easier to just farm red crystals in volcano or element veins (best maps to craft tek). I play CI so for me i run the element nodes (~20-30 ele) and stop at an obi to run alpha (220 ele) with 19 deinos and a yuty which keeps my base going for a long time.

It’s a common issue, dinos will get stuck on things on the way to the vein, and you need to go hunt them down. However, if you leave render the vein will go poof, making it hard to go hunt the stragglers if you’re solo. Thats what I thought. For question 1, they updated it so dinos cannot harvest element vein. When they were first enabled and wiped bases, you could but that was a very brief time. The mantis and chainsaw question though are some tests I would like to try at some point though.the veins aren't so much hard as they are time consuming. if you are just after element. I would suggest getting 2 element dust gachas.
