Antler orogeny

The Antler orogeny occurred in the Mississippian passive margin of the sialic North American continent in Nevada and probably in Idaho (Speed and Sleep, 1982). Speed and Sleep (1982) proposed an Arc-continent collision model for the Antler orogeny.

Orogeny: An orogeny is a geological event responsible for the formation of mountains. Geologists have found evidence of orogenies dating back several billion years, but orogenies are not just a thing of the past.

The Antler orogeny was an enigmatic tectonic event, that began in the early Late Devonian with widespread effects continuing into the Mississippian and early Pennsylvanian. Most of the evidence for this event is in Nevada but the limits of its reach are unknown. A great volume of conglomeratic deposThe Antler orogeny model proposes that cycles of shallow burial and near-surface emergence of the Middle Devonian barrier reef during Late Devonian resulted in parallel dissolution trends by circulation of meteoric groundwaters as shallow aquifers (Kyle 1981; Krebs and Macqueen 1984). The Alleghenian orogeny resulted from the collision of the central and southern Appalachian continental margin of North. During the Mississippian period (around 340 million years ago), an island arc collided with and accreted to that coast, generating a major mountain-building event: the Antler Orogeny (Figure 1.10).
