A sun-like star orbiting a black hole

Based on this and other information, the researchers estimate the exoplanet candidate in M51-ULS-1 would be roughly the size of Saturn, and orbit the neutron star or black hole at about twice the distance of Saturn from the Sun. While this is a tantalizing study, more data would be needed to verify the interpretation as an extragalactic exoplanet.

A sun-like star orbiting a black hole. Astronomers find the nearest black hole to Earth, and it has a Sun-like companion star. At 1,570 light-years away it's three times closer than the previous record holder. By Phil Plait Sep 20, 2022, 9:00 AM ET. Artwork of a black hole drifting across the sky, the background of stars and dust distorted by the immensely strong and intense gravity.

Then, the star needs to be sufficiently far away from the black hole, so the ringworld must be farther still. Which requires a somewhat larger star to achieve the same irradiance on the ringworld surface. Finally, gravity. A 1AU ringworld rotating around a G0 star like the Sun will have a "neutral" orbital speed of one rotation per year.

The location of the first two black holes discovered by ESA’s Gaia mission in the Milky Way. This map of our galaxy was also made by the Gaia mission. Gaia Black Hole 1 is located just 1560 light-years away from us in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus and Gaia Black Hole 2 is 3800 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus.A Sun-like star orbiting a black hole. Abstract: We report discovery of a bright, nearby ( G = 13.8; d = 480pc ) Sun-like star orbiting a dark object. We identified the system as a black hole candidate via its astrometric orbital solution from the Gaia mission. Radial velocities validated and refined the Gaia solution, and spectroscopy ruled ...
